This week on the show we had a new EVN developer on: Hope Chapman! For those who follow Anime News Network or are fans of That Guy With The Glasses, you may also know her as JesuOtaku. We talk about the development of her first EVN, Lovely Little Thieves, and you can see more of that project here! Enjoy the show!
Well after a week of trying to get this right, I proudly present toyou the AnimeFest edition of Sound Off! Now, just to warn you there are audio issues. I’ve cleaned it all up the best I could, but it turned out that the problem was with my second microphone…which I didn’t realize until it finally broke down during my last interview. You can still hear all of the questions and answers so it’s just going to have to be another lesson learned!
Other than that I want to thank everyone who I hung out with and interviewed during my time in Dallas! The EVN community is filled with amazing people and I humbled I was able to spend some time with some of you! I hope to see more of our community in the near future! Here are the guests for this week!
Tonight on the live show, JP will be discussing the return of RWBY from RoosterTeeth and how it’s being defined by a fandom mostly made up of people forcing themselves to like it. After which we’ll have music from the best up-and-coming musical artists in the EVN community! The stream starts tonight at 10 PM EST/9 PM CST on Mixlr here! Hope to see you guys all there!
On July 20th, JP took the podcast live for the first time on Mixlr! During Sound Off, JP dissected Winged Cloud’s Sakura Spirit and questioned where the EVN community would head thanks to impact on Steam. Afterwards, there was live music from games like Analogue: A Hate Story, Dysfunctional Systems and Cinders. Finally, JP personally closed out the night with some reflections on making the show better and future reviews!
If you missed the show, you can listen to it in full above or download the MP3 Here. And don’t forget to tune into the live broadcast of VNs Now Radio every Sunday at 10 PM EST/9 PM CST! (7 PM PST if you want to be pedantic)
Before the casting news of Batman vs. Superman was released to the world, JP3 was mourning the quiet departure of Christopher Nolan from the DC Cinematic Universe. While some would argue that Zack Snyder can only improve on a fractured legacy, your intrepid host goes to the numbers in this clip from Episode 10: Destruction, The Worst and HRH Nolan. Enjoy that and some other ramblings!
Before the taping of this episode, your resolute host thought he had come up with some insight into exactly why he ended up enjoying Swimming Anime. Before I could explore this idea any more, I was encouraged on Twitter to watch two of the worst pieces of entertainment I’ve ever seen: Queen’s Blade and Brother’s Conflict. So that revelation was shot. Instead, I discuss a recent blog I wrote about the relevance of Mario in the EVN community. Enjoy!
Fresh off viewing the first episode of the popular Internet series, RWBY, your host JP3 digs into the series to try and understand it’s suddenly popularity and where it has fallen short. This episode directly lead to the RWBY review series I do on the side of VNs Now! Enjoy!
So after two pretty serious episodes, the host decides to toss the show prep and goof around. In Episode 7, the topics go from Legend of Korra to the debuting Beware the Batman only to end back in the EVN community as well as answers a comment on the recent review of the BL adventure game Duael. Enjoy!
On Episode 1 of the Sound Off podcast, your insurmountable host dismissed the fan-favorite Free! Iwatobi Swim Club as nothing but half-naked schlock. However, I also promised that I would watch the first episode, come on the show and admit if I was wrong. Guess what happened? In one of the bigger mea culpas in the history of VNs Now, I (sort of) stop laughing at Free and talk about why it’s good. Enjoy!
Reflecting on weeks of contentious debates on Twitter, I look back on the history of Ancient Rome to describe the current state of media and entertainment: specifically in anime. This is one of my favorite episodes as I get to dive into my own personal philosophy when it comes to fiction. It is also the beginning of a small series of episodes that leads to one of my bigger mea culpas. Enjoy!
